CAPTAIN'S BOIL

WAIT TIME: I've eaten here a couple times now and I think I'm starting to get a handle on the best time to go and what to order. I personally think the best time to eat here is during lunch. Whether its a weekday or weekend, you can easily walk in and get a table plus the servers are a lot more attentive. Eating here during dinner, especially during a weekend, you'll definitely find yourself on a wait list. ESPECIALLY during dinner time. I remember I came on a Saturday night around 9pm and there was a 2hr wait. However, if you decide to add yourself on the wait list, they text you when your table is available, so you're able to walk around and explore. (TIP: kill some time at the arcade at Cineplex)

FOOD: My ideal meal whenever I come here is to get 1 lb of shrimp for myself with 1 order of corn and potato in the bag, 1 lb of mussels to share as well as cajun fries (ask for ranch sauce!) oh and of course a Diet Coke. All of this totals around ~$32 (includes tax + 15% tip) and with an order like this I am completely satisfied and STUFFED.

Top bag: Shrimp & Sausage in Captains Boil Medium - Left bag: Shrimp & Sausage in Captains Boil Medium
Middle bag: Mussels in Captains Boil Medium - Right: Cajun Fries w/ ketchup and ranch sauce
My friend likes to split an order of sausage, I personally don't really care for the sausage, to me its not a big deal, I can go without ordering it, I usually don't finish it.

I used to order rice along with my meal but now I order the potato. Its huge!! I actually prefer ordering the potato over the rice, its cheaper and its drenched in sauce since it comes in your bag.

My mom ordered the King Crab and its literally 1 leg. Although it was 1 leg there was a lot of meat and she says she was full afterwards. But I mean, with the price you're paying for the leg you can get my entire meal.. but then again its your own preference, quality of meat vs quantity of food, it's like if i were to order an app+burger+dessert vs you ordering a really good juicy steak

Left: Chicken Tenders (includes Cajun Fries) - Middle/Right bag: Shrimp in Captains Boil
Left bag: King Crab and Corn in Garlic in Non Spicy - Middle bag: Shrimp and Corn in Captains Boil in Medium
Right bag: Shrimp in Captains Boil in Medium
TIP - if you want, you can order the tenders instead of the cajun fries, its only a $1 more and they give you the same amount of fries and you get like 4 tenders.

TIP - ask for ranch sauce (its free!) when you order cajun fries

TIP - usually they give you a lime with a container of salt & pepper (but sometimes you have to ask for it). they don't really explain what to do with this, I made the foolish mistake of squeezing the lime into my shrimp bag and not even noticing the salt & pepper. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO is ask for extra limes and squeeze all those babies into the salt & pepper container and dip your shrimp/seafood in your sauced up bag AND THEN into the salt & pepper container, its sooooooooo good trusssss miiiii

Salt & Pepper container, squeeze lime sauce into container!

FLAVOUR: I like to get captains boil, which is all 3 flavours mixed (cajun cajun, lemon pepper and garlic sauce) in medium heat. I think this is perfect for me, and when it starts to get a little hot dipping it in the lime salt & pepper container actually brings the spiciness down. I suggest getting an order of cajun fries (or any app) just so you have a change the taste/flavour.

SERVICE: ok the first time I went here, which was back in January, service straight up sucked. They would forget things that we ordered and we'd have to ask/remind them. And I remember when I asked for ranch sauce they kept forgetting to bring it over, and when they finally did it was friggen mayo!!! However, the couple times I've gone after it has gotten a lot better. There was a time when they brought everything over, but with my most recent visit they forgot to bring an order of rice. Its probably just a hit or miss with the server. The service is overall is fast, I've never really had to wait long for my food to come out. Honestly, even though the service is a hit or miss the yummy food makes up for it.

Overall I love eating here and I'm pretty sure I at least eat here once a month. The only real complaints I have with this resto is their service and that their pop isn't refillable (its canned pop - like whats that about??!?!) Dinner here does hurt your wallet a bit but I mean its around the same price as sushi for dinner. I mean, its not AYCE but I definitely come out completely full and satisfied. And honestly seafood is generally expensive anyway.

SUSHI LEGEND

!!! ATTENTION !!! SCARBOROUGH HAS A NEW SUSHI SPOT

Honestly I haven't loved a sushi restaurant this much since grade 12, which was when my friend first introduced me to Matsuda. I remember after eating there it became THE spot. I brought my family, I went with my friends, introduced it to my boyfriend. 5 years later and it's definitely still a go-to spot to grab some AYCE ... well, until Sushi Legend opened in Scarborough *smirking emoji*

Real shit, I've been to Sushi Legend at least every other week since January. I wish I was kidding but I'm not. All the photos you see here aren't taken from just one visit - they were taken from the multiple visits. When I first found out about Sushi Legend opening a Scarborough location I went to go try it out with my friend. And then I showed my best friend. And then I went with my family. And then the first person I went with wanted to go again. I'm not kidding when I say I've been here every other week. AND I'M NOT EVEN MAD (but my Visa might be). It's the new spot

offers Dinner menu all day

(Top row): Sunny Roll - Sushi Legend Fried Rice - Beef Terriyaki
(Bottom row): Spicy Salmon Sushi - Fried Shrimp w/ Mango Sauce - Rock Shrimp - Beef Tataki

Sushi Legend Fried Rice

THIS!!!!! THIS. THIS. THIS. This is my favourite item on the menu for sure. I don't even eat rice but I could eat plates on plates on plates of this (ok i'm lying, my tiny stomach would never allow it - but I wish I could). It's so flavourful. The mayo on top is everything. I know mayo on top of rice sounds disgusting as hell but TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THIS, this will probably be your favourite item on the menu too. Tbh, its the reason I love this place, its the reason I keep coming back. I love this rice.

Sweet Potato Tempura

Unfortunately they do not have the Garlic Steak Cubes like Matsuda but their Beef Terriyaki makes up for it. The Beef Tataki is a must (thank god it's not the peppered one) and if you like Beef Tataki you'll love the Salmon Tataki as well. Another menu item I love is the Curry Chicken Cutlet (not pictured). Surprisingly it's not the chicken cutlet I love but the SAUCE. The japanese curry sauce is so good, sometimes I ask for extra sauce on the side so I could put it over my Sushi Legend Fried Rice.
